Lights at the Beach

Something that I love to do is visit Virginia Beach to look at the Christmas lights.  You pay around $10.00 per car to drive your car down the board walk and there are tons of animated lights.  In 2012, we visited for a long weekend.  This was my husband and kids second year seeing the lights and my third.  I would love to make this an annual family tradition.  You can find out more about it here: http://www.beachstreetusa.com/festivals/mcdonalds-holiday-lights-beach

All of the pictures below were taken from my van.  The lights are on both sides of the boardwalk and many are on the sand.  An animated Santa is always on the pier and it looks like his reindeer are taking off into flight.

Confessions of a "Pin" Star

In a sense I have been 'pinning' since way back..well sort of...I have had a page on the website I Keep Bookmarks for a long time.  I also went through a phase when I would cut out things I liked from magazines (that didn't last long and my stacks of clippings ended up in the trash).    Needless to say I LOVE Pinterest.  It took me a while to get on board but when I finally got the invite to sign up, I was hooked.  You can follow me at Follow me on Pinterest HERE

Thanksgiving

Yesterday was Thanksgiving.  My thankful list:

1) God and His forgiveness
2) My family
3) My friends
4) My health
5) My God-given talents
6) My home
7) My job
This list is on-going.

For Thanksgiving, I made my two little ones and several of my nieces and newphews Turkey t-shirts.

The ribbon shirt was tough, so I made this shirt for the nieces:

And my crafty momma made this neat turkey out of fruit:

Why Lima Beans?

Ok, now that we have my deep thoughts out of the way-lets jump right in... (anybody remember Deep Thoughts from Saturday Night Live?)

So why Lima Beans?  Well to be perfectly honest, I was trying to think of a name from my blog that would represent me.  Some of the things that I could think of that described me were already names in blogs- glue guns, digital diva, organized chaos, craftiness, and on and on and on.  So for some reason it hit me to combine a few of my favorite things- Lima beans and clearance shopping.

Not only do I love the taste of Lima beans but one of my favorite children's authors is David Shannon and he wrote A Bad Case of Stripes.

Check this out on Amazon or see below to hear it being read and see the illustrations

The girl in the story, Camilla, loves Lima beans but won't eat them because no one else in her school likes them and because Camilla is not true to what she likes she gets A Bad Case of Stripes.

If you want to see an online version of this story you can go to this awesome website called Story Line Online and listen to the book being read by an actor-click HERE .

Another one of my favorite is bargain shopping.  I have great plans to create a Shopping Bucket List on this blog...stay tuned...

Procrasination vs Perfection

I started this blog almost a month ago and haven't really done a whole lot with it.  I have thought about all the different cool posts that I want to do including being a mom; being a teacher; all the Pinterest ideas I have actually completed or used; and the list goes on and on and on...

Procrastination is often a problem for me-{if you are a family member or close friend reading this-no need additional laughter please (((smile))}.  I have always been an 'under pressure' kind of girl.  I do well (or at least I tell myself so) doing things the last minute.  I always try to do too much in too little of a time frame-hence, causing another problem-tardiness (another problem...another day).

I have been giving procrastination a lot of thought lately and I think that some of it might have to do with the fact that if I don't think I can do it well or be good at something-I just don't want to do it.  All the years of schooling that I have had have taught me that often people that are perfectionist turn out to have the messiest houses or be unorganized because if they can't do it perfect-they don't want to do it at all.   (Forget learning that last thought about perfectionist in college-maybe it was from watching episodes of  'Hoarder' or 'Super Nanny' on TV.)

So, I am forcing myself to begin this blogging journey, that I will now that I will love if only I will start....

Inspired to do a Little Crafting

Had Made a little time today to start on a few of my Pinterest inspired projects.  I am pretty pleased how they turned out.  I made these with a party theme in mind, but since we didn't have any parties to attend, my family and I had a Tea Party.

All the items, with the exception of the ribbon are from Dollar Tree.

Total cost for this cute 3 tiered dessert stand is $5.00 from the Dollar Tree.
This includes 2 plates, 1 bowl, and 2 candlesticks.

Another view of the 3 tiered dessert stand.

Glass globe and candlestick each just $1.00

Small round tea light candle holder was 50 cents.  Two were in the pack for $1.00.
Add in another candlestick at $1.00.
(My 5 year old daughter and tiny crafter got in on the action helping me with the sign and
she picked one of her blankets to be the tablecloth.)

A third globe on a candlestick held our napkins.  The 2 globes and the tea light holder
all on the candlesticks had a stair step effect.

Even the dog got a treat out of the party.

Total cost of the 3 candlestick holders and the 3 tired dessert tray ....(drum roll)...

$11.00

How much can you spend at a '$1.00 an item' store?

Today me and the kiddos went to the Dollar Tree.  If you have never been to a Dollar Tree you need to definitely put that store on your shopping bucket list.  I spent around $70.00 (um, yes, everything is a $1).

On my shopping list were several items that I needed to complete some projects that I saw on Pinterest.  I can't wait to start crafting.  I promise to post pictures as soon as my projects are complete.

Let's Start Blogging!!!

Creating this blog to keep a collection of my random thoughts that range from everything from lima beans to crafts to kids to clearance shopping.
